Addiction is Never The Problem, It is a Symptom
HWS Newsletter #4: Addiction recovery, Ayahuasca experience, and Art inspired by Ayahuasca.
I can’t believe that it has already been a month since this newsletter started. I am grateful that I have the opportunity to create content for all of you.
This week I wanted to share: an episode about a certain addiction that is taboo, my first experience with Ayahuasca, and some Ayahuasca-inspired art.
Using Insights from Porn Addiction to Integrate Repressed parts of ourselves
Everyone wants to be seen and everyone wants to be understood. What seems like a basic need can be extremely hard to come by.
This week I spoke with Dimitri Douchin who is a Porn Addiction Therapist who helps men and women overcome this addiction using an empathetic way that is centered around acceptance and integration.
In this episode, we talk about the dangers of porn addiction, perception of pornography, shame and the inclination towards addiction, cultural repression, and integrating the shadow.
We conclude the episode with a guided exploration of a fantasy.

A Technique to Let go of Past Trauma
In the article this week, I shared my first Ayahuasca experience and a technique that helped me reconnect with my inner child and let go of limiting beliefs based on childhood trauma. You can read it here:
Mother Ayahuasca’s Universe
This week’s painting was inspired by my 5 Ayahuasca ceremonies in Brazil earlier this year.
The themes depicted here are:
Mother Ayahuasca, the guiding spirit who was with us throughout the retreat and beyond.
The plants used to brew Ayahuasca; chacruna leaf and the caapi vine
The Amazon river and fish scales based on some marine life experiences
The Universe
The declining rainforest and the forest fires of destruction.
I used modeling paste, textured paper, gold leaf, and cardboard to add textures to this one.
Thank you. Are there some topics that you would like to read about or listen to on the podcast? Would love to know. See you next week!
